i see the ocean!

Today, we meant to get up early and hike either Mt. Greylock or Mt. Washington. But, as it turned out, we didn't wake up until around 10. So, with sunrise being so early (4:15 today!), we didn't really have enough sunlight for a three hour drive and a day-long hike. But we still wanted to get out of the city, and last night Julie brought up the idea of going out to the Cape instead. So, on a whim, that's what we did.

The original intention was to drive up the Cape towards Wellfleet and stop at a beach along the way. Then, we'd find someplace in Wellfleet or one of the other towns to get some good food - forgetting this is off-season, and barely anything would be open. We did check out a couple places off the main road. The first stop was the JFK Memorial. It's set off the road next to a small, but really nice beach. We drove a bit farther up the cape to try and find a beach on the bay side where we could watch the sunset, which lead us to Fisher's Beach. I highly recommend this beach if you find yourself in the Cape, the view of the sunset was perfect. It seemed silly at first to be on the beach when it was so cold, but the air felt great and as long as you're layered, the cold isn't too bad. The views more than make up for the chill. So give the beaches some cold weather love!

As with any road trip, this was followed by the requisite feast. This time, at the Shake Shack in Chestnut Hill. We had to wait for a few minutes outside, but they brought us delicious hot chocolate. Then, before we knew it, we were inside, had ordered, and were eating. That place moves so fast, I really have no idea how they do it. But hats off to you, Shake Shack. That frozen custard....
